U.S. bankruptcy filings fell slightly in October, dropping to 129,809 filings nationwide. This total represents a 3.15% decrease from the number of filings in September, but a small increase (0.85%) from October 2009.

Chapter 7 filings represented nearly 70% of all filings, while Chapter 13s accounted for 29.64%, according to this week’s AIS InSight, a proprietary report created by American InfoSource using information derived solely from the Federal Bankruptcy Court System.

This brings YTD bankruptcy filing totals to approximately 1.3 million, with an expectation of nearly 1.6 million by year’s end.
